#TurkeyElections – New Young Turks calls for unity to avoid sectarian tensions
New Young Turks (NYT) sees a worrying rhetoric from all political parties which can lead to sectarian tensions. NYT calls for all political parties to come together for the unity of the country and for peaceful democratic elections to take place without any fear of terrorist threats or attacks.
At a recent seminar in Istanbul between Turkish students and European students of Turkish origin, Halid Kiratli Spokesperson for NYT said: “Turkey is today under attack from terrorist organisations that seek to divide us. We must all give a message of hope in the future of Turkey and encourage young people to take part in the election process so their voices can be heard.”
Young people are the future of Turkey and must be given a definite voice in the political debates affecting our country. Exclusion and ignoring the views of young voices leads to alienation and disillusionment. NYT calls on all political parties to listen to the voices of young people with respect and tolerance.
Note to editors:
New Young Turks (NYT) is a non-partisan organisation working to build bridges between Turkey and the world through cultural events and political dialogue. Over the years we have developed a network of young students and professionals of Turkish backgrounds across Turkey, Europe and North America.
